Which deadlines apply?

Battery passport from February 2027, further product groups follow step by step.

  • 18 July 2024: The Ecodesign Regulation (ESPR) entered into force. It creates the framework for product passports.
  • 20 July 2026: The EU registry for Digital Product Passports is in operation.
  • 18 February 2027: The battery passport becomes mandatory for batteries for light means of transport (e.g. e-bikes), industrial batteries above 2 kWh and traction batteries.
  • From 2027: Further product groups follow according to the EU Commission’s 2025–2030 working plan, including textiles, furniture, mattresses, tyres, steel and aluminium.

The Commission adopts a separate delegated act for each product group. The requirements usually apply only some time afterwards so that companies can prepare. We update the profiles in DPP Creator as soon as the requirements are fixed.

Many companies already publish passports voluntarily – as a transparency offer for customers and to practise collecting data from suppliers early.
